Short text 753 CharactersPlain text

On Saturday, September 11th, the Alps Hockey League will start its sixth season with 17 teams. While defending champion HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana and the HC Pustertal are no longer part of the league, with the Vienna Capitals Silver and the EK Die Zeller Eisbären, two former clubs return to the AHL. With the HC Merano, a completely new team is also part of the league from now on. The season schedule for the 2021/22 season starts with the Regular Season in which every team plays 32 matches. This will be followed by a Master- and Qualification Round before the new champion will be determined in the Playoffs. Due to the uncertainty of whether nations participating in the AHL will qualify for the Olympics, changes may still be made to the schedule.

The sixth season of the Alps Hockey League will start with the Regular Season on Saturday, September 11th. First, all 17 teams will face in a round-robin format. Among others, league newcomer HC Merano is challenged by last year's semifinalist HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice on the opening matchday.

The top six teams will then play on in the Master Round and are definitely qualified for the Playoffs. The remaining teams will determine the remaining two Quarterfinalists in the Qualification Round. In two groups of five and six teams respectively, only the group winner of each group will clinch a playoff spot. In both the Master- and the Qualification Round, a round-robin format will be played.

Playoffs in mode "best-of-5"
The Playoffs are scheduled to begin in mid-March. Both Quarterfinals, Semifinals and the Final will be played in a "best-of-5" mode. The champion of the 2021/22 season will be decided on Saturday, April 23rd at the latest.

Main matchdays remain Thursday and Saturday
As in previous seasons, Thursday and Saturday will be the main matchdays in the Alps Hockey League in the coming season. For logistical and infrastructural reasons, road trips are also set for the upcoming season, which means that some games will also be played away from the main match days. The final starting times will be announced soon.

Changes to the schedule possible
Changes to the current schedule are still possible. This is mainly due to the fact that it is not yet certain whether nations participating in the AHL will qualify for the Olympics. The Olympic qualification will take place from August 26th to 29th. Depending on the outcome of this, it will then be evaluated if and which adaptations have to be made.
