Round 17 of the win2day ICE Hockey League features five games on Friday, with Innsbruck hosting FTC on Saturday. The spotlight is on HC Falkensteiner Pustertal against EC Red Bull Salzburg, their first meeting since the quarterfinals in March. Both teams have won their last four games. League leaders HCB Südtirol Alperia look to strike first in Székesfehérvár, while Milano and Pioneers Vorarlberg aim to end their losing runs.
Pustertal and Salzburg meet for the first time since the quarterfinal sweep
In March, Pustertal ended the season of the then defending champions. They swept Salzburg 4:0 in the quarterfinals, with every game decided by a single goal and the last one in Bruneck going to a third overtime. Now the two meet again for the first time, and both are on a roll. Pustertal have won four straight and lost only one of their six home games. Salzburg have won all four games since Teemu Levijoki took over behind the bench. Pustertal sit one point ahead of the Red Bulls with two games in hand. Both clubs bolstered their defense in October: Salzburg signed former NHL defenseman Fredrik Claesson, while Joshua Wesley returned to Bruneck.
Bolzano look to pull clear in Székesfehérvár
HCB Südtirol Alperia head to Hydro Fehérvár AV19 on a five-game winning streak. The Foxes lead the standings level on points with Linz, and a win in regulation in Hungary would put them three points clear. Fehérvár beat Milano on Tuesday and sit eleventh, just one point behind eighth place.
Champions Graz seek revenge against KAC
EC-KAC won the first meeting of the season 6:2 in Klagenfurt. Now KAC visit the Moser Medical Graz99ers, who sit seventh, three points behind them. KAC have not played since Sunday.
Capitals look to snap their skid in Ljubljana
Olimpija Ljubljana are third and have won five of their seven home games. The Vienna Capitals have lost their last three games, scoring just four goals. They are level on points with Villach and Milano in ninth place.
Milano host winless Pioneers
Milano Hockey Club have lost their last four games, three of them by a single goal. The league newcomers have won only once on home ice. Pioneers Vorarlberg have collected just one point from 16 games. Milano edged them 5:4 in the first meeting in Feldkirch.
Innsbruck look to stop the slide against FTC
HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie and FTC-Telekom wrap up the round on Saturday. Innsbruck have lost five straight, scoring only six goals. FTC are two points ahead of Innsbruck with two games in hand. On Wednesday, the Budapest side beat champions Graz in overtime, with Rasmus Heljanko scoring twice. On the road, however, FTC have won only once so far.
