HC Falkensteiner Pustertal secured a 4-3 overtime victory over EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV on Friday evening, climbing to the top of the standings. The South Tyroleans now hold a one-point lead over Olimpija Ljubljana, who were free from play this round. The Steinbach Black Wings Linz also recorded an overtime win against the Moser Medical Graz99ers (3-2), while EC-KAC prevailed 2-1 in a shootout at Hydro Fehérvár AV19, celebrating their sixth consecutive league victory. Convincing wins were achieved by EC Red Bull Salzburg against FTC-Telekom (7-2) and HCB Südtirol Alperia in the Tyrol Derby at HC TIWAG Innsbruck (4-1). The win2day ICE Hockey League continues with two games on Saturday.
In a hard-fought matchup against EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, Pustertal came back from a 1-3 deficit to win 4-3 in overtime. Villach initially took the lead in the 25th minute, but Pustertal equalized nearly eleven minutes later. Only 21 seconds after that, Villach regained the lead, and another 19 seconds later they extended it to 3-1. Pustertal then scored an important goal later in the second period, and Nick Saracino sent the nearly 2,600 fans into a frenzy 76 seconds before the end of regulation, forcing overtime, where JC Lipon netted the game-winner.
Linz ends losing Streak
The Steinbach Black Wings Linz claimed an important 3-2 overtime home win over the Moser Medical Graz99ers, marking their third win of the season. A second win in regulation time eluded the Upper Austrians, however. With only 8.5 seconds left in the third period, Nick Bailen tied the game at 2-2 for Graz. In overtime, Shawn St-Amant scored the decisive goal, sending over 4,000 fans into celebration. Linz had taken the lead twice in regulation but were pegged back both times. Graz suffered their second loss in a row and sit fifth in the standings.
Sixth Consecutive win for EC-KAC
EC-KAC narrowly defeated Hydro Fehérvár AV19 2-1 in a shootout, marking their sixth straight league victory. Fehérvár got off to a strong start, with Bene Stipsicz scoring in the fourth minute. Jordan Murray equalized in the 38th minute. No goals were scored in the third period or overtime. Both goalkeepers delivered strong performances: Rasmus Reijola (AVS) made 38 saves, and Florian Vorauer (KAC) stopped 33 shots. Murray converted the decisive shootout penalty for the KAC. Fehérvár suffered their second consecutive defeat and sit ninth in the standings.
Bolzano claims sixth derby win in a row
In the Tyrol Derby between HC TIWAG Innsbruck and HCB Südtirol Alperia, Bozen won convincingly 4-1, recording their sixth consecutive derby victory. Daniel Mantenuto opened the scoring after just 68 seconds, and Bolzano led 3-0 by the end of the second period. The only goal for Innsbruck came from Steven Owre shorthanded in the 50th minute. Innsbruck suffered their third consecutive loss and remain in 11th place.
Salzburg dominates Budapest
Defending champions EC Red Bull Salzburg had no trouble against league newcomer FTC-Telekom, cruising to a 7-2 home victory. The visitors kept pace for only the first 14 minutes before Salzburg pulled away with goals from Dennis Robertson (14'), Peter Schneider (17'), and Troy Bourke (20'), making it 3-0 in the first period. Bourke completed his first-period double shortly after the restart. Despite two quick goals by the Hungarians to bring the score to 4-2 before halftime, Salzburg responded with two more goals in the second period. Robertson added a second goal in the third period to secure the 7-2 final score. Salzburg improved to fourth in the standings, while Budapest sits eighth.
