Two teams of the win2day ICE Hockey League started their preparation campaigns on Friday. HC Pustertal, facing its second year in the win2day ICE Hockey League, edged HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, the Slovenian representative from the Alps Hockey League, 2-0. While Jake Smith didn't allow anything in the HCP box, Morten Jensen flicked in a goal from the right bully spot in the 11th minute to make it 1-0. The second period was poor in highlights, with the visitors from Slovenia able to go on three overtime periods, but failed to produce much in the process. It remained with the narrow lead for the Wolves. In the final period, the black and yellow team came out of the dressing room more determined and put more pressure on Jesenice. In a powerplay right at the beginning, the goal of Jesenice was under constant attack, but Karjalainen kept the box tight and thwarted, among other things, a great chance of Ahl. The Swede did better in a double overtime around the middle of the third, when he beat the Finnish goalkeeper in the follow-up and increased the lead to 2:0 for HCP. Jesenice tried to score a consolation goal, but Jacob Smith could not be beaten and secured the Wolves a successful start into the pre-season with a shutout in their debut game.

Narrow defeat for Graz99ers
The Moser Medical Graz99ers started with a lot of energy into their first preseason game against HC Banska Bystrica from Slovakia. Especially in the first ten minutes, the Styrians put a lot of pressure on their opponent. The Graz team missed two good scoring chances directly in front of the Slovakian goalkeeper. In the 15th minute HC Banska Bystrica took the lead. In the second period the Slovaks were better in the game and rewarded themselves with the 2:0 in the 29th minute. The 99ers had some chances in this period, but they were too harmless in front of the goal. The Styrians quickly scored their first goal to narrow the gap. Michael Schiechl set up newcomer Tobias Fladeby ideally and the Norwegian did not miss the chance alone in front of the opposing keeper. In the 52nd minute, however, the visitors restored the old two-goal lead. The 99ers came back in the 57th minute. Daniel Oberkofler set the scene for Viktor Granholm, who finished with a wrist shot worth seeing. Head coach Pennerborn took a time-out with 1:32 minutes left and Goalie Wieser off the ice. Mike Zalewski had a great chance to equalize with five seconds left, but the forward only hit the outer net.
