The 23rd matchday of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League brought some very close results, but also some clear ones. The HC Pustertal won surprisingly with 4:3 at the EC Red Bull Salzburg. Thus, the third duel of the season between the two teams could not be decided in regular playing time. The spusu Vienna Capitals' away win at the HCB Südtirol Alperia was just as close. The Capitals prevailed with 2:1. The Moser Medical Graz99ers also won with 2:1 at the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The EC-KAC, EC GRAND Immo VSV and Hydro Fehérvár AV19, on the other hand, celebrated clear victories.

Also the third duel of the season between the EC Red Bull Salzburg and the HC Pustertal could not be decided in regular playing time. Unlike the two duels before, this time the league newcomer kept the upper hand. Pustertal won with 4:3 in Salzburg after shootout and moved up to eleventh place in the standings. The home side from Salzburg, who slipped to third place in the standings, were the team that set the tone at the beginning. But it were the "Wolves" who went into the dressing room with a 2:0 lead thanks to a brace just before the end of the first period. In the second period, the Red Bulls struck back. First T.J. Brennan reduced the score to 1:2, before Mario Huber managed to equalize just before the end of the period. For the US-American Brennan it was already the fifth goal against Pustertal. In addition, he scored in every duel with the South Tyroleans. In the final period, the visitors were ahead again five minutes before the end of the game, but RBS's answer came promptly. After a goalless overtime, the decision had to be made in the shootout. In this Greg Carey scored the decisive penalty.
Innsbruck loses comeback
In the first game after a 25-day forced break, the HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie lost against the EC-KAC with 0:4. In the standings, the Tyrolean team even slipped out of the Top-6 and is now only in seventh place. The Klagenfurt team climbed to the fourth place in the table. After a scoreless first period, Lukas Haudum opened the scoring in the 25th minute of play. Shortly before the break, Manuel Ganahl increased the lead to 2:0. Eight and a half minutes before the end of the game, Daniel Obersteiner scored for the visitors to make it 3:0.Thomas Vallant scored the final goal with a few seconds to go in the fifth KAC win in a row in the ICE. It was the second shutout of the season for Sebastian Dahm in the Redcoats' goal. The Danish national team goalkeeper saved all 20 shots on his goal.
Close away wins for 99ers and Capitals
The Moser Medical Graz99ers were able to celebrate only their second away win of the season against the Black Wings Linz. In an exciting and balanced game, the guests won 2:1 in the end. However, the home side took the lead through Emilio Romig (12.). The narrow 1:0 held until the 36th minute of play, before Joey Martin scored the equalizer. Again only four minutes later Michael Schiechl scored the game-winner. It was the 32-year-old's sixth goal of the season. Graz remains in tenth place in the table. Linz is in last place in the standings.
The spusu Vienna Capitals also scored a narrow away win at the HCB Südtirol Alperia. It was the first duel of the season between the two teams and thus also the first rematch of last season's semifinal series. For Bolzano it was also the first game without Head Coach Doug Mason. The home side was defeated with 1:2, but started the game strongly, as Dustin Gazley put the "Foxes" in the lead already in the second minute of the game. However, the answer of the Viennese followed promptly. Just three minutes after the opening goal, Nikolaus Hartl equalized. This held till Philippe Lakos, after an assist by Hartl, scored the decision in the 38th minute of play. It was the first goal of the season for the 41-year-old. Vienna is now sixth in the table. Bolzano is still in eight place.
Villach continues winning streak
The EC GRAND Immo VSV could not be stopped by the Dornbirn Bulldogs and celebrated their fourth win in a row. The Bulldogs in turn continued their downward slide. For the Vorarlberg team it was already the twelfth defeat in a row. The home side from Villach set the tone from the beginning and quickly made it clear that the points would stay in Carinthia. In the end they won with 5:1. Already after 75 seconds John Hughes put the VSV in the lead with his eighth goal of the season. Two more goals from the Eagles followed in the first period. After that, the home side slowed down a bit. It took until the 49th minute till the next goal was scored. Simeon Schwinger scored the only goal for the Bulldogs in a shorthanded situation.
In addition, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and Tesla Orli Znojmo faced each other in the only international duel. In this one, the new second in the table from Hungary clearly kept the upper hand with 5:1. In addition a four-games losing streak for AVS ended. Campbell, Atkinson, Sarauer, Bartalis and Mihaly scored in Fehérvár's fifth win in a row over Znojmo. ZNO is in ninth place in the standings.
