Quarterfinals continue on Thursday

After all four home teams were victorious in the quarterfinal opener on Tuesday, the series switches venues on Thursday. The EC Bregenzerwald, EK Die Zeller Eisbären, Hockey Unterland Cavaliers and HC Meran/o Pircher will be aiming to tie the series at home. As usual, all four games are available in the PPV livestream on valcome.tv.

The Rittner Buam SkyAlps started the quarterfinal series against the EC Bregenzerwald with a clear 4:1 home win and promptly confirmed their strong form from the Regular Season. It was the South Tyroleans' eleventh win in a row in all competitions. Their last defeat was on January 23. Bregenzerwald, on the other hand, conceded their fourth defeat in a row. The Vorarlberg side were 0:3 down after just over eight minutes on Tuesday. Top scorer Roberts Lipsbergs scored the ECB's only goal in the 54th minute. It was already the 67th scoring point for the Latvian. The 29-year-old is fourth in the top scorer rankings. Bregenzerwald have won three of their last four encounters against Regular Season champion Ritten in front of their home crowd. In the last encounter on January 31, however, the "Buam" narrowly prevailed 3:2.

The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan celebrated a hard-fought opening win against the EK Die Zeller Eisbären. The visitors from Zell am See were already 3:1 and 4:2 ahead in the meantime. In the end, however, the game went into overtime, in which Davide Conci scored the game-winner for Sterzing while short-handed. It was the second win of the season for WSV in their fifth duel with the "Polar Bears". For Zell am See, two new signings - Niki Hartl with a brace and Jacob Pfeffer - got on the scoresheet. Four different players got on the scoreboard for Sterzing. In Zell am See, the Broncos celebrated a clear 6:2 victory in the Master Round. It was their first away win in Pinzgau since 31 January 2019. In between, EKZ won five home games against them in a row.

The Red Bull Hockey Juniors also started the quarterfinals with an overtime win and just like Sterzing, the Juniors were already trailing by two goals against the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers led 2:0 after 27 minutes in Salzburg before Paul Vinzens reduced the deficit to 1:2 still in the second period. The 18-year-old German also scored the 3:2/OT game-winner in the 73rd minute. It was Unterland's first defeat after five wins in a row. Salzburg have won three of their last five encounters. The Juniors have won all of their last ten games against Unterland. Only the first AHL meeting was won by the team from Neumarkt. The two teams also met in the quarterfinals last season. The Juniors won 4:0, twice after overtime. Tuesday was the third OT quarterfinal victory for the Juniors against the Cavaliers.

The second quarterfinal matchday will be concluded with the game between the HC Meran/o Pircher and S.G. Cortina Hafro. Last year's finalist from Cortina beat the playoff newcomer 5:1 in game one. It was the third win in a row for the Italians. HCM suffered their second defeat in the last five games. This was the third time the two teams have faced each other this season. Cortina leads the H2H 2:1, with the home team having always celebrated a victory so far. Overall, Merano has won five of its last ten home games, while Cortina has won five of its last ten away games. Calder Anderson (78 points) and Nolan Ritchie (74 points) continue to lead the top scorer rankings of the Alps Hockey League. Anderson also scored the "Eagles'" only goal on Tuesday.
