Randy Gazzola last new signing of Vienna | Salzburg and Budapest also strengthen their squads

The Vienna Capitals squad is complete: defenseman Randy Gazzola is the Viennese latest new signing. The 31-year-old played for Asiago for the past three seasons, scoring an impressive 110 points in 126 games. In addition, EC Red Bull Salzburg has signed Mathias Böhm and FTC-Telekom Budapest has signed Milán Horváth.

Gazzola began his professional career in March 2019 with ECHL club Toledo Walleye. The defender gained his first European experience in the 2019/20 season in the Alps Hockey League with the Rittner Buam SkyAlps. Gazzola won the Italian Super Cup with the South Tyroleans, and in 44 games in the Alps Hockey League, the Canadian native recorded 34 points (10 goals + 24 assists). For the 2020/21 season, Gazzola returned to the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets. With the team from the US state of Indiana, the defenseman won the Kelly Cup, the ECHL championship. The following season, Gazzola returned to Toledo Walleye. At his old club, the defenseman had his best ECHL season in terms of points, with 64 goal contributions (14 goals + 50 assists). During the season, Gazzola also played two AHL games for the Grand Rapids Griffins. With the 2022/23 season, the right-handed shooter moved back to Italy, this time to Asiago in the win2day ICE Hockey League.

In his very first season, Gazzola emerged as the top-scoring defenseman in the multinational ice hockey league with 45 points (9 goals + 36 assists) in the regular season. In the following season, Gazzola, who has Italian citizenship, made his first international appearances for the Azzurri. The Italian-Canadian scored 38 points (7 goals + 31 assists) in just 30 games last season. Asiago scored a total of 85 goals in the 30 games the defenseman played last season. Gazzola was thus involved in 44.7 percent of the goals in these games. His average of 1.27 points per game was the highest in the entire league. In three seasons for Asiago, the Italian-Canadian collected 108 points (22 goals + 86 assists) in the regular season. No other defenseman has more goal involvement in the same period.

Böhm moves from Vienna to Salzburg
Mathias Böhm grew up playing for the Vienna Capitals juniors and gradually made his way into the Vienna professional team. Along the way, he was also a member of the Austrian U18 and U20 national teams. The 6'3" forward made his debut in the 2021/22 season at the age of 18 in the Vienna Capitals' professional team, but continued to play in the AHL and Austrian U20 league for two years. In the last two seasons, Böhm played full-time in the win2day ICE Hockey League (83 games | 7 goals | 10 assists) and also showed his potential in several appearances for the Austrian national team. Now the 22-year-old is moving to Salzburg, where he is expected to add depth to the Red Bulls' squad.

Milán Horváth joins Budapest
FTC-Telekom Budapest has signed Milán Horváth. The 24-year-old defenseman played 128 games in the win2day ICE Hockey League for Fehérvár between 2020 and 2023, collecting 22 points. Last season, Horváth initially played for Finnish club JoKP before moving to Hungary to join Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia HC after 15 appearances.
