Red Bulls Suffer Heavy CHL Round of 16 Defeat

EC Red Bull Salzburg fell 6-2 on the road to ERC Ingolstadt in the first leg of the Champions Hockey League Round of 16. Despite a strong stretch in the second period, Ingolstadt remained the more efficient team and capitalized on Salzburg’s mistakes.

The Red Bulls struggled from the start and conceded an early deficit following strong offensive pressure from the hosts. Tyler Lewington tied the game with a deflected shot, but Ingolstadt responded with two quick goals before the first intermission.

Salzburg showed clear improvement in the middle frame, increasing the pressure and creating several good opportunities. However, a poorly timed power-play goal against made it 4-1 for Ingolstadt and halted Salzburg’s momentum.

Lukas Hörl brought Salzburg back within reach early in the third period, but Ingolstadt answered immediately. The Red Bulls were unable to strike back again and ultimately fell 6-2. To keep their hopes of advancing alive, Salzburg will need at least a four-goal win in the second leg on 19 November in Salzburg.
