When Matt McIlvane starts his work as head coach in Salzburg, it is already his second season with the Red Bulls, because already in 2013/14, the at the time 27-year-old stood behind the boards as assistant coach alongside head coach Don Jackson in Salzburg. Then he went together with Don Jackson to Munich, where the coaching team Jackson / McIlvane have made the Munich Red Bull Club with three championship titles and a final participation in the Champions Hockey League to one of the most successful German clubs. In addition, with the German national team McIlvane celebrated as assistant coach the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in February 2018. Before McIlvane came to Europe, he already was headcoach in the FHL (Federal Hockey League, a professional league in the Northeastern of the United States) in 2011/12 and assistant coach in the ECHL at the Orlando Solar Bears in 2012/13. Now he is looking forward to his new responsibility: "It's a good situation for me. I know Salzburg among others from the Champions Hockey League last season and I know how Red Bull traditionally works. Salzburg is a good place for ice hockey and I want to build a strong team that plays for the championship."
