On Sunday this year's Alps Hockey League season ended with the title for HK SZ Olimpija. In addition to a nerve-wracking final series, the third AHL season offered further exciting records. The season with the most scored goals ever moreover managed to set a new attendance record.

In this year's final, with HK SZ Olimpija and HC Val Pustertia Wolves the two best teams of the season came together. After the winner of the regular season already led 3:1 in the best-of-seven final series, the Slovenians managed to turn a 2:0 game 5 deficit in a 3-2 win in overtime. Only 24 seconds separated the South Tyroleans from the championship title before Mark Cepon prematurely ended the wolves dreams just before the end of the game. In the overtime, the dragons even managed to win the game after David Planko`s decisive goal, which shortened to 2:3 in the series. After this "turning point", the second of the regular season succeeded in taking this momentum and after another victory, the dragons ended up winning the championship of the Alps Hockey League with a 3-1 victory in game seven. For the Slovenians, it is the first title in the Alps Hockey League and at the same time alongside Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 1935 (2018) and the Rittner Buam (2017) the third overall champion in the league history. Moreover, it is the first time in the history of the league that the winner of the regular season does not win the championship.
 
Most attended season in the history of the league
In addition to this exciting final series in this years games numerous other records have been set up. With an average of 1467 spectators, the VEU Feldkirch had the biggest attendance during their home games. Closely followed by the HC Pustertal with an average of 1318 spectators. A total of 300.000 fans visited the arenas of the Alps Hockey League this season, which is an absolute record. For the second time in the history of the league, the final was played in a crucial game seven. A premiere was the fact that in the semi-finals with Ljubljana, Pustertal, Jesenice and Lustenau still three different nations were represented. In addition, Hockey Milano Rossoblu celebrated his debut in the Alps Hockey League. With 394 penalty minutes throughout the season, the EC Bregenzerwald was the fairest team in the league.
 
New goalscoring record
Furthermore the third Alps Hockey League season set up a new goalscoring record. In total the teams managed to score 2466 times in 384 games. (6,4 goals per game.) The Slovenian teams had the best offense. Champion Ljubliana scored 217 goals followed by Jesenice who managed to find the net 203 times.
 
17 wins in a row are record
With a total of seventeen consecutive victories (only one of them in overtime) the HC Pustertal equalled the record for the most victories in a row. Last years champion Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey managed to set this record 2017/18. Furthermore, the South Tyroleans won their seventeen games from the start of the season and managed to set a new record mark for the best start into a season. Moreover the home strength of the wolves in this Alps Hockey League season was impressive. In 20 home games during the regular season they only got beaten once.
 
The individual marks
For the first time, with Oliver Nordberg, this years MVP came from an Austrian team (Red Bull Hockey Juniors). With 81 points (31 goals and 50 assists) in 47 games, the Forward also set up a new point record for the Alps Hockey League and thus made himself the top scorer. The most goals this season were scored by Marc-Olivier Vallerand (37). Matthew Climie from HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice won the title for the best Goaltender. The keeper of the Slovenes achieved a save percentage of 94.4% and a GAA of 1.51. The goalkeeper from HC Val Pusteria Wolves even managed to reach a close catching quote (93,7%) while playing much more games (55).
