Ritten and Bregenzerwald got wins

On Wednesday the Rittner Buam kept their winning streak alive. The Alps Hockey League Champion of 2016/17 celebrated a contested 6:3 road win against bottom-placed EC KAC II and won the sixth consecutive game. Further, EC Bregenzerwald secured a 6:2 home win while beating second last HC Fassa Falcons thanks to a superior third period. The 18th AHL-round will continue with five more games on Thursday.

EC Bregenzerwald took the lead after nine minutes played, while Daniel Ban used a shorthanded situation for the first goal of the night. Not even 14 seconds later the hosts found the back of the net for the first time with Martin Gran and Iori/Soracreppa getting the assists. Bernhard Fechting put the Austrian side ahead later in the first and Mikko Virtanen made it more comfortable at halfway of the game (3:1). A couple of minutes later the hosts reduced again on a power play situation thanks to Martin Castlunger. Then it was all Bregenzerwald in the last frame with Christian Haidinger and once again Daniel Ban adding two more for the home team. The hosts had everything under control and Christian Ban rounded off the score.

After a non-goal opening frame, in which both teams had good chances for the lead and one (KAC) resp. two (RIT) powerplays, Ritten got off a perfect start in the second period. The guests took over control right from the beginning and Johan Eriksson opened the scoring after 13 seconds. Markus Spinell doubled up about four minutes later and Alex Frei used Rittens third power play for another goal. The game seemed locked, but the hosts stroke back and Valentin Hammerle deflected a shot for the first goal for KAC in the middle frame. About 11 minutes to go in the last, the Carinthians got the second goal, while Ramon Schnetzer converted a pass of Simon Hammerle. After Simon Kostner gave Ritten again a lead by two goals, the KAC reduced through Daniel Obersteiner. With the hosts pulling their goalie, Rittner scored twice in the last two minutes and made the game safe.
