Ritten Makes a Strong Statement Against Season Elimination
The Rittner Buam made a clear statement on Thursday, in the first of three possible games against season elimination. In front of more than 1600 fans, the Buam started dominantly, but initially failed to score. In the second period, the hosts scored goals in quick succession. A total of five goals were scored by the Buam in this period. With a 5:0 lead, the decision in this match seemed to have already been made. However, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan fought back impressively in the last period, narrowing the score to 3:5 by the 59th minute. When the Broncos gambled everything, they ultimately had to accept a goal into the empty net. Thus, the Broncos missed their first of three chances to advance to the finals. The next opportunity comes next Saturday, in front of their home crowd.

Cortina Captures the First Match Puck
Starting at a series tie of 2:2, S.G. Cortina Hafro began its semifinal home game against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. In the first 30 minutes, both teams delivered a tough, evenly matched battle: Cortina initially took the lead, but the Red Bulls struck back, equalizing in the first period and initially even taking the lead in the second period. Then, Cortina took complete control of the match and had worked up a 7:2 lead by the 39th minute. The Red Bulls could not find their way back into the game and ultimately had to accept a 2:7 defeat. Thus, S.G. Cortina Hafro earned its first match point for the finals next Saturday. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors, on the other hand, are facing elimination for the first time this season.
