On Saturday, former champion Rittner Buam took the lead in Alps Hockey League standings, after beating the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 6:3, which suffered their first defeat of the season. With the Steel Wings Linz and the EC Bregenzerwald two teams grabbed their first victory of the season, as the Upper Austrians cheered a shootout-win against S.G. Cortina Hafro and the Vorarlberg side upset reigning champion HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana after overtime. Further, HC Gherdeina valgardena.it got its first shutout.

Ritten takes the lead in standings
With a 6:3 home-win against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, the Rittner Buam took over the Broncos in standings and grabbed the lead in Alps Hockey League. While the “Buam” got their third straight win, Sterzing lost for the first time this season. Former champion Ritten cheered the fourth straight victory against the Broncos. After Mathieu Lemay gave the guests an early lead (2 min), Ritten responded quickly and turned it around within 25 seconds. A brace of Daniel Tudin around halfway through the first finally got Ritten on winning ways.

Vienna Capitals Silver lose first road-game
Alps Hockey League newcomer Vienna Captials Silver lost their first road-game, as the Viennese got defeated 2:5 at HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. The Slovenian side booked the third win of the season, coming back after two consecutive losses. Henrik Neubauer got off a perfect start for the guest, scoring after 10 second. In the course of the game last year’s semifinalist became even stronger, had a way more shots on goal, but was rewarded late, as Jaka Ankerst’s second goal of the night gave the home team a comfortable lead (3:1 | 41 min) and further a clear win.

VEU Feldkirch is back on winning ways
With a 6:3 road-win at EK Die Zeller Eisbären, the VEU Feldkirch is back on winning ways, after losing three in a row lately. The polar bears got the first defeat after two consecutive wins. It was Feldkirch’s ninth vicotry against Zell am See in Alps Hockey League history. A great opening frame got the VEU back on track: Robin Soudek’s brace and Patrick Ratz gave the Vorarlberg side a clear 3:0 lead after 20 minutes. The further frames ended up balanced, with each part of the game Feldkirch had at least a two-goal lead. With an empty-netter about 90 seconds left, Dylan Stanley made a five-point-game (1G | 4A).

Steel Wings Linz cheer first Alps Hockey League win ever
With a 3:2 home-win after shootout, Alps Hockey League-newbie Steel Wings Linz celebrated their first win ever. In front of more than 500 spectators the Austrian side defeated S.G. Cortina Hafro, which suffered its first loss after four consecutive victories. Linz led twice during the game, as Adam Fedor and Laurens Ober scored for the home team. After Cortina tied it twice, Ober decided the game for the newcomer in the shootout. In addition, Leonhard Sommer had a great night between the pipes, saving 54 of 56 shots on his goal (96,4%).

Bregenzerwald upsets reigning champion
The EC Bregenzerwald got its first season win, as the Vorarlberg side picked up on the defensive end and snatched up a 2:1 home win after overtime against reigning champion HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana. The Slovenian side lost for the third time this season. After the “dragons” took the lead thanks to Ziga Pesut on powerplay three minutes left in the first, the “Wälder” tied it after three minutes played in the second with a goal of Giovanni Vogelaar on powerplay too. The decisive goal of Stefan Söder was made after 104 seconds in the extra session and gave Bregenzerwald the win.

Asiago takes over Kitzbühel in standings
With a tight 2:1 road-win at EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey climbed fourth spot in standings. It was Asiago’s fourth win this season, while the “eagles” suffered their first home defeat. A brace of Steven McParland gave the former champion the win in the end, after Kitzbühel’s Lasse Uusivirta tied it for the hosts 17 minutes left in regulation.

Gherdeina celebrates shutout at Lustenau
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it celebrated a shutout-win, after it grabbed a 2:0 road-victory at EHC Lustenau. It was Gherdeina’s first win on the road, Lustenau’s second home-defeat in the current season. After a non-goal opening frame, Michael Pilsner Sullmann scored for the guests in a five-on-three occasion and Matt Wilkings doubled up in the second to round off the score on an early stage.
