Simon Kostner put the hosts ahead in the tenth minute, but Ryan Valentini turned the game in the visitors’ favour with two goals in less than three minutes. Ritten remained on the offensive in the middle period as well, but failed to convert three power-play opportunities and could not find a way past an outstanding Rudy Rigoni in the Asiago net.

In the third period, Nick Porco appeared to have made the decisive move with his wrist shot to make it 1:3. However, Marco Marzolini reduced the deficit to 2:3 on a counter-attack, before Robert Öhler equalised at 3:3 with a powerful shot in the 53rd minute. Neither team scored in overtime, and Connor Blake ultimately converted the decisive attempt in the shootout.
