Sabres and Lakers celebrate AWHL home victories

The Sabres St. Pölten continued their strong run in the Placement Round of the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League, claiming their third straight win to extend their lead at the top of the standings. The Lower Austrian side cruised to a clear 5–1 home victory over the VSV Lady Hawks on Sunday. In the Qualification Round, the Lakers Kärnten gained perfect revenge against the DEC Salzburg Eagles.

In the European Women’s Hockey League, both the Budapest Jegkorong Akadémia and HK PSRZ Bratislava recorded their second wins in their respective doubleheaders.

At home, the Sabres set the tone early against the Lady Hawks and steadily built their lead. Ashley Taciuk and Hanna Obermayr each scored twice to make it 4–0 before the hosts sealed a comfortable 5–1 victory. For the Carinthians, it was already their third defeat in the intermediate stage.

After the DEC Salzburg Eagles’ shootout win on Saturday, the Lakers Kärnten hit back the following day. Majorie Bolduc opened the scoring in the sixth minute and added another goal i nthe middle frame for 3–0. Although the Eagles pulled one back in the final period, the Lakers had the upper hand and secured a 4–1 win to strengthen their lead in the Qualification Round.

EWHL: Budapest and Bratislava stay unbeaten
The Budapest Jegkorong Akadémia also came out on top in the second meeting with Tauron Metropolia Silesia within 24 hours. After a 4–0 win on Saturday, the Hungarians fell behind 0–3 on Sunday but battled back to level the game 4–4 by the 29th minute. In overtime, Nikolett Fehér netted her second goal of the night to seal a 5–4 victory.

HK PSRZ Bratislava also celebrated a second straight win against MAC Budapest in their back-to-back meetings. Following Saturday’s overtime success, the Slovak side triumphed in a shootout this time. Budapest squandered two leads, and it was Janka Hlinková – who had scored the late equalizer in regulation – who netted the decisive shootout goal.
