Sabres celebrate clear win to kick off AWHL placement round

The Sabres St. Pölten started the placement round of the win2day Austrian Women's Hockey League on Saturday with a clear 6:0 win at the Lakers Kärnten. Lena Artner, Lena Dauböck and Tamina Schall each scored a brace for the superior Lower Austrians.

In the European Women's Hockey League, MAC Budapest celebrated a spectacular home win against EVB Eagles South Tyrol. The Hungarians turned the game in their favor with two goals in the final minute to win 5:4.

The placement round will determine from which position the three teams that have already qualified for the Final 4 will start the Final 4. The Sabres St. Pölten got off to a perfect start with a clear win in Klagenfurt. Although the visitors were superior from the start, it took until the 18th minute for Lena Artner to open the scoring on power play. Lena Dauböck made it 2:0 early in the middle period and the score remained that way until the final period. There, the Lower Austrians made sure of a clear situation and a 6:0 victory. The intermediate round continues on Sunday, with the Lakers hosting the KSV Highlanders in their second game.
