Sabres St. Pölten are on the right path to redemption after Game 1 of the Final against Aisulu Almaty. Following a scoreless opening period — with the Sabres holding the clear edge in play — Tamina Schall and Artemis Tekin struck twice in the middle frame to put the Austrian side in control. Alexandra Gowie extended the lead to 3–0 on the power play later in the second period.

The defending champions from Almaty managed to pull one back late in the third period, but the Sabres secured a 3–1 road win. With a two-goal advantage, St. Pölten now have the opportunity to clinch the championship on home ice on Sunday.

MAC Budapest enjoyed a strong start in the first game of the battle for third place. The Hungarian side jumped out to a 2–0 lead within the opening ten minutes against the KSV Highlanders. Although the Highlanders cut the deficit in the first period, Budapest responded in the middle frame to extend the lead to 4–1.

Budapest eventually secured a 5–2 victory — with Emily Baxter scoring twice — and will head into Sunday’s return leg with a three-goal cushion.
