Sabres win EWHL Regular Season | Showdown for final quarterfinal spot

With a convincing 4–0 shutout victory over MAC Budapest on Saturday, the Sabres St. Pölten secured first place in the European Women’s Hockey League regular season. While positions one through seven are already locked in, the battle for eighth place – and the final playoff ticket – will be decided on Sunday in a direct matchup between the DEC Salzburg Eagles and Budapest Jegkorong Akadémia.

The Sabres took the lead in the opening period through Artemis Tekin and added two more goals in the middle frame. Goaltender Selma Luggin stopped 21 shots to earn the shutout. The Lower Austrian side can no longer be overtaken at the top of the standings.

Aisulu Almaty finishes the regular season in second place. The reigning EWHL champion defeated Lakers Kärnten 7–3 on Sunday, ending the Carinthian team’s playoff hopes. In the fight for eighth, Budapest Jegkorong Akadémia improved its chances with a shootout win in Bolzano against the third-ranked Eagles. The decisive matchup with Salzburg follows on Sunday.

HK PSRZ Bratislava clinched fourth place – and home-ice advantage in the quarterfinals – with an overtime win in Villach. The KSV Highlanders, who celebrated a clear victory over Tauron Metropolia Silesia on Saturday, will enter the playoffs as the fifth seed.
