Sabres win opening game at EWHL Euro Cup

The new women’s ice hockey season kicked off on Friday with the EWHL Euro Cup. While the Sabres St. Pölten celebrated a victory, the VSV Lady Hawks lost their opening match.

In Group A, played in Budapest, the derby saw Hokiklub Budapest defeat Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia 5–1. Afterwards, the Sabres St. Pölten secured a 3–1 win against Turkish debutants TED Kocaeli Koleji Spor Kulübü. Taciuk put the Lower Austrians ahead early, but the Turkish side equalized shortly before the end of the first period. In the second period, goals from Suppan and Hlinkova sealed the final score.

In Group B, hosts Hockey Team Petrzalka faced the VSV Lady Hawks. The Slovakian team prevailed 6–2.
