Sabres win second game against Silesia and take over the league lead

The Sabres St. Pölten also came out on top in the second game of the doubleheader against Tauron Metropolia Silesia. After a 3:0 victory on Saturday, the team from Lower Austria edged out a narrow 2:1 win on Sunday. As a result, last season’s finalist in the European Women’s Hockey League moved to the top of the standings, holding a one-point lead over defending champions Aisulu Almaty.

In the second game of the doubleheader in Katowice, the Sabres took the lead just three minutes in through Jaime Magoffin. The Polish side, currently sitting 11th in the standings, responded with determination and equalized in the 21st minute. Less than two minutes later, however, the Sabres regained the lead. The score remained 2:1 until the final buzzer, with Sabres goaltender Rosina Fichtinger impressing with 15 saves.
