After the 2:1 away win in Finland, Salzburg got off to a dream start at home on Wednesday. Troy Bourke scored the opening goal while shorthanded, after winning the puck himself and finishing dryly. The Red Bulls had more of the play for long stretches and, with five against five on the ice, they remained the team that set the tone in the middle period. Lucas Thaler made it 2:0 in the 30th minute and the win2day ICE Hockey League champions were briefly in trouble during a 3-on-5 short-handed situation, but Salzburg survived this too. Shortly after the start of the third period, Philipp Krening made the final decision. Mario Huber even added a fourth with a marvellous goal, and the final goal was scored by Peter Schneider, who converted a rebound while short-handed. The Red Bulls will face Swedish representative Färjestad Karlstad in the quarter-finals.
