EC Red Bull Salzburg dampened the mood in Klagenfurt's Heidi Horten Arena after just 98 seconds. Florian Baltram put the reigning champions ahead with his first goal in a final series, capitalising on a 3-on-1 situation. The visitors had the game under control for most of the first period. Captain Thomas Hundertpfund had the best KAC chance when he failed to beat the strong Atte Tolvanen while short-handed. The Red Bulls went into the first break with a narrow lead. Salzburg also scored quickly in the middle period. Niki Kraus netted from close range in the 23rd minute to make it 2:0. The score remained at this level after 40 minutes, the Red Jackets tried a few things but were only able to create a few accents in offence. It took 52 seconds in the third period for Benjamin Nissner to score the next goal alone in front of Sebastian Dahm. In the 44th minute, a Herburger goal gave the KAC fans a brief glimmer of hope. However, the Red Jackets were unable to build up any pressure after that and Salzburg also won the third game. The Red Bulls have their first chance to defend the title in front of their home crowd on Friday.
