The Moser Medical Graz99ers set the tone for long stretches of the first period, but initially missed good chances. The home side then took a 1:0 lead in the first powerplay of the game: Casey Bailey scored 22 seconds before the end of the period, his 15th goal of the season. Salzburg equalized just two-and-a-half minutes after the restart: Benjamin Nissner scored after a feed from Schneider to make it 1:1. Emotions boiled over a few more times and there were penalties on both sides - the 99ers even survived a 3-on-5 short-handed situation and went into the second break at 1:1. The visitors turned the game in their favor in the 47th minute. In a 2-on-1 situation, Peter Schneider failed to beat Graz goalie Gunnarsson, but Nissner buried the rebound. Just 17 seconds later, Ryan Murphy made sure of the preliminary decision. In the final phase, Troy Bourke scored an empty netter to make it 1:4. The Red Bulls thus also won their third season duel with Graz.
