Release from 15.03.2023
Red Bull Hockey Juniors and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice are in the semifinals. Both teams prevailed 4-0 in the "best-of-seven" series, but each had to go overtime on Tuesday evening. The Rittner Buam SkyAlps battled back - also after overtime - to even the series. Three Matchpucks to the Semifinal entry conquered meanwhile the S.G. Cortina Hafro by a clear success over the EHC Lustenau.
Only goal in 64th minute brings series equalizer for Ritten
After the individual games in the series between EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and the Rittner Buam SkyAlps ended quite clearly in each case, both teams delivered a tough battle on eye level on Tuesday evening, in which especially the two goalies excelled. Ritten goalie Hayden Hawking had a bit more to do in the first two periods than his counterpart Paul Mocher, who was playing his first game in the AHL playoffs this season. These two could not received a goal for the first 60 minutes and so the decision had to be found in the "endless-overtime". But it took only three and a half minutes before the decisive goal was scored. First Mocher parried a shot by Robert Öhler with the pads, but the rebound slipped to Cardwell, who shot directly from distance and scored. This allowed the Rittner Buam to tie the game at 2:2 in the "best-of-seven" series.
Cortina captures three match pucks on semifinal spot
Cortina captures three match pucks on semifinal berth. For the first time in this series, the away team recorded a win to move to 3-1 in the "best-of-seven" quarterfinal series. At the start, Tommaso Traversa struck once again: Cortina's top scorer opened the lead in the first period in powerplay. Cortina was always in full control of the encounter and built a 4-0 lead in the first 40 minutes. The visitors eventually prevailed 6-1, with Tommaso Alvera scoring a brace. Thus Cortina has already on Thursday the chance to fix the Semifinal entry before own public.
80 minutes thriller brings semifinal ticket for Jesenice
HDD SIJ Acroini is in the semifinals. The Slovenians prevailed 4-0 in the "best-of-seven" quarterfinal series, but had to fight hard and long for the sweep on Tuesday night. In the first period, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan were still ahead: Markus Gander first gave the Broncos hope that their season would last longer. However, Jesenice answered in the second period in powerplay. No further goals were scored in regulation time. It was not until the final seconds of the first overtime that Eric Pance provided the decision and the semifinal entry. The Broncos, who fought their way into the quarterfinals via the pre-playoffs, have to end their season winless in the quarterfinals.
Juniors shoot their way into semifinals after 3-goal deficit
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors took their first chance to reach the semifinals. In the meantime, however, it looked as if the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers might record their first playoff win in the Alps Hockey League. Led by Santeri Haarala - he scored a brace - Unterland built a 3-0 lead until the 26th minute. Then the Master Round winner ignited the turbo and equalized - among others by a double pack of Thomas Heigl - until the 51st minute. In the overtime Philipp Wimmer provided the decision and the semifinal entry of the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers have to end a successful premiere season in the Alps Hockey League without a win in the quarterfinals.
