Salzburg appoints Alan Letang as head coach
EC Red Bull Salzburg has named Alan Letang as its new head coach. The 50-year-old Canadian joins the Austrian champions from DEL2 side Blue Devils Weiden and will take over a professional team in a European top league as head coach for the first time. Letang brings extensive experience from both Canada and Europe. He spent several years coaching in the OHL and also worked within Hockey Canada’s national team program, winning four gold medals with the U18 and U20 teams at international tournaments. In Europe, the former defenseman previously coached at Medvescak Zagreb and is already familiar with the ICE Hockey League from his playing career.

Capitals rely on local goalie tandem
The Vienna Capitals announced the return of Max Zimmermann. The 26-year-old netminder signed a one-year contract with his hometown club and will form an all-Vienna goaltending duo together with Sebastian Wraneschitz. Zimmermann came through the Capitals’ youth system and still holds the league record as the youngest goaltender ever to record a shutout. After spells in Zell am See, France and Denmark, the Austrian national team goalie now returns to Vienna. Most recently, he impressed in both the Alps Hockey League and Denmark’s Metal Ligaen with strong save percentages.

Pustertal extends Di Tomaso, signs Zandegiacomo
HC Falkensteiner Pustertal continued shaping its roster for the upcoming season by extending the contract of defenseman Greg Di Tomaso. The 30-year-old Italian-Canadian led all Wolves defensemen in scoring last season with 35 points. In addition, 21-year-old forward Luciano Zandegiacomo signed a three-year contract and will join Pustertal’s ICE roster full-time after several seasons in the Alps Hockey League. At the same time, Pustertal also announced several departures. Long-time captain Raphael Andergassen is ending his professional career, while Jon Blum will not receive a new contract offer. Adam Almquist had already announced his retirement from professional hockey following the Finals series.
