EC Red Bull Salzburg struggled at the start of the new Champions Hockey League season against the Stavanger Oilers. But after a goalless first period, the Red Bulls took command and took the lead through a powerplay goal by Troy Bourke in the 27th minute. Florian Baltram hit the bar a little later while playing shorthanded and the score remained 1:0 after 40 minutes. After the restart, the Norwegians equalised, but Peter Schneider (47th) put the hosts ahead again. But only 83 seconds later the Oilers scored the 2:2. With this score the game went into overtime, in which Salzburg goalie Tolvanen distinguished himself. Only a few seconds after his save, Florian Baltram scored after a pass from Wukovits.

Hydro Fehérvár AV19's CHL debut did not go according to plan, however, as the Hungarians were already trailing 0:3 after just twelve minutes in their home game against ZSC Lions Zurich. István Terbócs restored hope with a goal to make it 1:3, but the Swiss restored the three-goal advantage in the middle period. Zurich then added another three goals to win 7:1 away.

Pustertal beats Innsbruck at home
In addition, three teams of the win2day ICE Hockey League were in preseason action on Thursday. The Moser Medical Graz99ers were clearly defeated in their first test match in Slovakia. Although the Styrians started strongly against HC Nové Zámky and took the lead in the 13th minute through Tobias Fladeby (PP), the Slovaks managed to equalise shortly before the end of the period. A weak middle period then put the Graz team on the losing track - Nové Zámky proved to be very efficient and pulled away to 5:1. In the end, head coach Johan Pennerborn's team, which will meet Banská Bystrica on Friday, was defeated 1:6.

HC Pustertal welcomed HC TIWAG Innsbruck for a league test. The South Tyrolean team set the tone in the first period and went ahead 3:0 after goals by Glira, Deluca and Archambault. In the middle period, the visitors reduced the deficit with a powerplay goal by Jan Lattner, in the last two minutes of the period Peeters and Shaw evened the score. In the 45th minute, Morten Jensen put the hosts back in front and Aaron Luchuk later made it 5:3. Although the South Tyroleans gave away a 3:0 lead, they thus secured the home victory in the final period.
