On Friday 4 of 5 Erste Bank Eishockey Liga games were decided by only one goal. EC Red Bull Salzburg, who defended the lead at top, and Liwest Black Wings Linz earned overtime wins. While EC-KAC returned to 3rd place with a shutout, EC Panaceo VSV and Moser Medical Graz99ers came closer to the top-5 again.
Despite Salzburg taking an early lead in the top game against Vienna, the Caps were 2:1 up at the end of the first period thanks to goals from Ty Loney and Ali Wukovits. Late in the second Brickley tied it at two and with no more goals in the third it went to overtime. In the extra session Mario Huber became the hero with scoring the game winning goal.
Klagenfurt is the new third-placed team as the Carinthians earned a 3:0 shutout in Dornbirn. After a goalless first, Daniel Obersteiner opened the scoring in the 26th minute. Ten minutes later Manuel Geier added a pp goal. In the third Lukas Haudum finished off the scoring. The champions are equal on points with Linz who had a really tough challenge against Innsbruck. The game was a mere 45 seconds when Rick Schofield made the breakthrough but at the end of the first it was a 2:2 score. In the second Innsbruck even turned the game around with a Sedivy goal but Dragan Umicevic forced overtime. Here Finn lit the lamp to give Linz a bonus point.
HC Bolzano could not return to the top 5 as the foxes lost their home game against Graz 1:2. Former Bolzano player Travis Oleksuk scored the only goal in the first and Olvier Setzinger doubled the lead with a pp marker. Marco Insam got Bolzano on the scoreboard late in the second but it was the only HCB goal. In today's last game, Villach won a high-scoring one against Fehervar. After trailing 2:1 at the end of the first, the Hungarians turned the game around and had a 4:2 lead after the halfwa point of the game. This time Villach bounced back for a 5:5 score after 60 minutes. With no goals in overtime, Anton Karlsson became the hero in shootout.
