Salzburg fails to qualify for the semi-finals of the CHL

EC Red Bull Salzburg were beaten 0:6 by Färjestad Karlstad in the second leg of the Champions Hockey League quarter-final and thus missed out to qualify for the semi-finals. The Red Bulls won the first leg 3:1, which is why they were eliminated with an aggregate score of 3:7.

Färjestad Karlstad, second in the Swedish SHL standings and regular season champion of the Champions Hockey League, played an almost perfect quarter-final second leg. They had numerous great chances right from the start, but Salzburg's defense held firm in the first period, which is why the score was 0:0 at the break. In the second period, the Red Bulls even had the first big chance after just a few seconds, but the Swedes quickly took control again and finally took the lead in the 22nd minute. Just four minutes later, Färjestad increased their lead to 2:0, equalizing the first leg result, and in the 32nd minute Karlstad finally set course for the semifinals by scoring 3:0. Salzburg initially set the tone in the final period, but they failed to score and the Swedes made everything clear with three more goals.
