After Salzburg winning their home game one week ago 3:2, the Finns had the better of the play early in the return leg. In their first power play Oulu was out of luck when former Salzburg player Shaun Heshka only hit the post. Salzburg also did not use their first one man advantage but then they took advantage of a 4-minute powerplay as Alexander Rauchenwald put a rebound into the net. After the restart the hosts upped the tempo and were rewarded for their hard forecheck when Oskar Osala tied it at one. Now it was all Kärpät but the visitors defended well and Salzburg goalie Steve Michalek had some big saves. The story continued in the third with Oulu occupying Salzburg's zone for most parts but they could not find the back of the net anymore. With 45 saves Michalek became the hero in the 1:1 tie. In the semifinals Salzburg faces EHC Red Bull Munich.
