Salzburg lose to Berlin in the CHL despite comeback attempt

EC Red Bull Salzburg suffered a 4–3 defeat against the Eisbären Berlin in the Champions Hockey League on Wednesday. After falling four goals behind, Salzburg managed to close the gap once again, but it was not enough to earn a point. The Red Bulls therefore also missed out on qualifying for the CHL playoffs.

Despite the defeat, the Red Bulls thrilled their home crowd with a strong comeback after falling 0–4 behind by the 21st minute. From that moment on, the Salzburg side pushed forward relentlessly. Jayden Lee pulled one back in the second period with a rebound to make it 1–4 (34th minute), whilst Dennis Robertson scored in the third period with a lob under the crossbar to make it 2–4 (46th minute). Mario Huber made it 3–4 in the 53rd minute, but they were unable to find an equaliser. With this defeat, Salzburg are now out of contention for a place in the CHL play-offs. The Red Bulls will play their final group match away at Skellefteå on 13 October.
