EC Red Bull Salzburg started with enormous pressure, acting mostly in the offensive zone, especially for the first ten minutes. Later Rouen Dragons speed it up, but there were no goals scored in the first, as both teams were too stable defensively.

In the second the teams neutralized each other and played their attacks from a secured defense. In the 36. minute, the hosts took a 1:0 lead, as Tolvanen could not secure a rebound.

In the final frame, the "Dragons" happily doubled up, as a blueliner was blocked and bounced right onto Rolands Vigners' stick (53.). With 0:2, Salzburg got its first power play - and there Florian Baltram missed a big chance, after a perfect pass from Jan-Mikael Järvinen. Soon later Vigners did it again to give his colors a 3:0 win in the round of 16 opening leg.
