The Champions Hockey League journey for EC Red Bull Salzburg ended in the round of 16. The reigning champion of the win2day ICE Hockey League earned a promising starting position against the defending Champions Hockey League champions a week ago. The Salzburgers started with a two-goal cushion into Tuesday's decisive second leg in Sweden. Rögle Ängelholm, however, started like a shot from a pistol and scored the first goal already in the third minute. The spirited team of the win2day ICE Hockey League had little to oppose against the Swedish top team. At the beginning of the second period, Rögle put themselves in a better position with a double strike. Austrian Marco Kasper made it 4-0 in the 29th minute and thus already gave Rögle a 2-goal lead in the aggregate score. Thomas Raffl could still shorten the score in the middle period, but the defending Champions Hockey League champions finished the home game too calmly to allow the Salzburgers to make a comeback. Rögle Ängelohm finally prevailed 5:1 and thus fixed the advancement to the CHL quarterfinals.

With EC Red Bull Salzburg the last team of four teams of the win2day ICE Hockey League has been eliminated in the European top competition, the Champions Hockey League.
