For EC Red Bull Salzburg there was nothing to get at the start of its ninth Champions Hockey League campaign. Head Coach Oliver David's team was defeated by Skelleftea AIK with 0-4. The "Red Bulls", with David Kickert covering the net, played well at times, but could not threaten the victory of the Swedish runner-up. They managed only 13 shots on goal, Skelleftea 33.

"The Swedes are very strong skaters and took their chances. Unfortunately, we didn't. It was a tough game in which they didn't give us much. We should have made it much harder for them," Florian Baltram summarized the game.
