David McIntyre can be used on the center position as well as on the wing. After four years in the NCAA with the Colgate University Raiders in Hamilton, New York, he went on to play in the American Hockey League with the Lowell Devils and the Albany Devils before he also played seven games for the Minnesota Wild in the NHL in 2011. After further AHL seasons, McIntyre moved to Europe in 2014, where he played two years in the Finnish Liiga with SaiPa and then, in 2016, moved to Zug, Switzerland. There the Canadian played until the last season 2019/20, when he finally moved to Lugano.

McIntyre was a member of the NCAA All Star Team several times during his university days and won the NLA Most Goals Playoffs Award in Switzerland in 2016/17. He also won the renowned Spengler Cup twice with Team Canada and won the Swiss Cup with the EV Zug in 2019. In the two years in Finland he scored 29 times in 119 games and gave 68 assists. In Switzerland he scored 62 goals and 94 assists in 193 games.

He describes himself as a "complete player who can score points, but is also strong in defense. I play hard and enjoy serving the team. That is more important than personal success." McIntyre is drawn to Salzburg because the Red Bulls "have a great organization that suits me well. And my goal is to win championships."

In recent years, the experienced forward has often played against teams in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League (the former Erste Bank Eishockey League) in the pre-season as well as in the Champions Hockey League, so the local style of play seems quite familiar to him. "I also know Taylor Chorney and Derek Joslin very well and that's an advantage if you already know someone on the new team.

In recent months, McIntyre has been staying in his home town of Port Severn, Ontario, training on the ice almost daily. "That was definitely my longest off-season, but with my consistent training I feel in good shape." David McIntyre is expected in Salzburg in the next few days.
