Salzburg sweeps Fehérvár to advance to semifinals | Wins for Carinthian teams

EC Red Bull Salzburg is the first team to reach the semi-finals of the 2024/25 win2day ICE Hockey League season. The reigning champions earned a 6:3 victory at Hydro Fehérvár AV19 on Sunday and won a playoff series against the Hungarians for the third time in a row with a sweep. While EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV levelled the quarter-final series against HCB Südtirol Alperia once again, EC-KAC secured match pucks with a win in Bruneck.

EC Red Bull Salzburg also won the fourth quarter-final game against Hydro Fehérvár AV19 away from home 6:3 to reach the semi-finals without defeat. After a goalless first period, six goals were scored in the second. The reigning champions took a 4:2 lead after trailing at one stage, with Tyler Lewington scoring the visitors' fourth goal after a fine assist from Raffl. After the restart, captain Thomas Raffl added a nice goal for the preliminary decision. The Red Bulls thus reached the semi-finals for the twelfth time in a row, something no other team in the win2day ICE Hockey League has ever managed to do.

There was an emotional duel in the Villach Stadthalle, where EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV and HCB Südtirol Alperia engaged in an open exchange of blows. After a goalless first period, Bolzano went ahead several times. The visitors led 0:1 and 1:3 - but the blue and whites came back and Alexander Rauchenwald equalised with his fifth goal of the series. The home side turned the game in their favour in the third period: Alexander Maxa scored the game-winner and Guus van Nes added an empty netter to make the final score 5:3.

The EC-KAC managed the first away win in the quarter-final series against HC Pustertal on Sunday. Matt Fraser reacted the quickest in the seventh minute when he Kalgenfurt was on power play and he put the puck over the line with all his might. Nick Pastujov increased the lead to 2:0 before the break and Nick Petersen scored a brace in the middle period, with Jason Akeson only briefly reducing the deficit to 1:3. In the end, the Carinthians celebrated a largely unchallenged 4:1 away win and now have their first chance to advance to the semi-finals in front of a home crowd on Tuesday.
