After the 1:0 home win on Saturday, Salzburg also got off to the better start on Tuesday at Sparkasse Arena. Already in the first minute Bolzano goalie Sam Harvey could distinguish himself. Mario Huber also failed to score on a solo attempt, and shortly afterwards the visitors took the lead: after a faceoff, the home side just focused on the puck and then Peter Schneider was alone in front of the goal. The two-time league MVP did not miss this chance and made it 0:1 in the sixth minute.

In the course of the first third the hosts became stronger, nevertheless it went with the narrow Salzburg lead into the first break. Only a few seconds after the restart Dustin Gazley stormed on Salzburg goalkeeper Tolvanen, who kept the upper hand as so often. After that, power plays dominated the action on the ice. After a 2+2 penalty against Mike Dalhuisen, the Red Bulls acted with pressure, but failed to score. Shortly after the end of the shorthanded situation, Enrico Miglioranzi failed to score against Tolvanen, a little later the home side had the best phase during a one-minute 5-on-3 powerplay - but they could not use the numerical superiority either. In the 35th minute, defender Dennis Robertson provided the second goal on the other side. The former Bolzano player successfully finished a 2 on 1 situation into the short cross corner.

Early in the final period Mario Huber even added a third goal for the guests. In the 45th minute Ryan Culkin stirred up hope for the HCB fans, after several attempts he broke the spell and got Bolzano on the scoreboard. In the further course of the period, both teams had chances. The home side failed to get close again, as the Red Bulls defended skillfully. With twelve seconds to go captain Thomas Raffl scored an empty netter for the 4:1 final score. With this away victory - by the way, one year ago today the Salzburgers secured the championship title in Fehérvár - the team of head coach Matt McIlvane took the lead in the final series for the first time.
