Salzburg takes third, Villach first win in CHL group stage

The second weekend in the Champions Hockey League group stage has ended successfully from the the win2day ICE Hockey League teams, as EC Red Bull Salzburg claimed a 2-1 win at Ilves Tampere in Finland after a dramatic shootout, while EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV celebrated its first win in the 22-23 with a 6-2 home victory over Comarch Cracovia from Poland.

Further, the ICE preseason has come to an end with a 4:0 home win of HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie against BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg.

EC Red Bull Salzburg gained points in the fourth game of the group stage too with a 2-1 road win after shootout at Ilves Tampere and still have a chance to reach the knock-out stage in Group E. The ICE champions managed a perfect start thanks to an early powerplay goal by Thomas Raffl (4./PP1). In the second period, Salzburg defended for ten minutes shorthanded, only in the final period they could not prevent the conceded goal, which subsequently led to an overtime and shootout. The penalty shootout offered drama, only in the 18th attempt the "Red Bulls" prevailed thanks to Troy Bourke. Salzburg is in second place in Pool E after four games with seven points. On October 5th and 12th, the two duels with the current group leader Fribourg-Gotteron (9 points) complete the group stage.

EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV celebrated its first win in the running group phase with a 6-2 home victory over Comarch Cracovia from Poland on Sunday. The "Adler" got off to a good start, Benjamin Lanzinger (9.) with a deflection and Chris Collins (11.) after his own rebound gave them a two-goal advantage. The Poles made up for this until the 45th minute - before two goals by Villach within 53 seconds cleared it for the hosts. Elias Wallenta (49.) secured the rebound, immediately afterwards, Andrew Desjardins (50.) restored the two-goal advantage. Lindner, with an empty-netter, and Collins with his second goal ensured the final score. For Villach, the CHL group stage continues on October 4th and 11th with games against the Straubing Tigers from Germany.

Innsbruck end ICE-Preseason with shutout win
Further, the preseason in the win2day ICE Hockey League ended on Sunday. In the last preparation game, HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie won 4-0 at home against league rivals BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg. The "Sharks" remained without conceding a goal also in the second comparison with the Vorarlberg team, on Friday Mitch O'Keefe's team won on the road 1:0. Tom McCollum was responsible for the shutout on Sunday, Adam Hewelka (11.), Corey Mackin (16./PP), Senna Peeters (22.) and Jamal Watson (57./PP) scored.
