After the shootout win in the derby on Friday, EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV added the next win on Sunday. Against the spusu Vienna Capitals succeeded a 5:2 comeback win on home ice. The Caps started the match much more efficiently and took a 2:0 lead until the twelfth minute. Bernhard Starkbaum stood out in the first period with several top saves. The hosts, however, got better into the match as the game progressed and beat Starkbaum for the first time through a combination between Robert Sabolic and Derek Joslin that was worth seeing. In the second period, the Eagles needed less than four minutes to finally tilt the game. Goals from Hughes, Richter and Dejardins made it 4:2 in the meantime. The Caps couldn't find their way back into the game and finally had to admit defeat with 2:5. Thus, also in the third season duel of these two teams, the hosts won. In the table, the Villach team was able to extend its lead over the Viennese team to seven points. The gap to the second-placed HCB Südtirol Alperia is now only three points.

Salzburg wins top duel against Bolzano

EC Red Bull Salzburg decided the top duel against HCB Südtirol Alperia in their favor and thus ended the weekend with a perfect six points after they had previously suffered four league defeats in a row. The reigning champions put in a disciplined performance against the South Tyroleans, especially in defense, and allowed very little. Thomas Raffl took the lead on the power play before Benjamin Nissner and Lucas Thaler made it 3-0 in the second period. Bolzano came back with a goal from Dustin Gazley, but the turnaround was not to come. The Red Bulls reduced the gap to second-placed HCB Südtirol Alperia to two points with this win. Leader Innsbruck is still five points away, but has already played two games more than the Salzburgers.

Fehérvár follows suit

Like Salzburg and Villach, fifth-placed Hydro Fehérvár AV 19 followed suit. The Hungarians celebrated a 3-0 win over Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and remain one point behind the top four teams. Fehérvar controlled the encounter with the league newcomers from Italy from the start, but they still managed to keep their box clean in the first period. In the middle third, however, the Hungarians were able to overcome goalkeeper Justin Fazio twice. Dominik Horvath had a rather quiet day on the other side, but proved his reaction speed in the attacks of the Yellow-Red and was able to celebrate his first shutout this season.

KAC close on the heels of the Top-6

The EC-KAC came back after the derby defeat on Friday. A 3-1 loss to HK SZ Olimpija saw a Red Jackets lineup that continues to be stretched thin cut the gap on the top-6 to one point - but Linz, which is in sixth place, played one less game. In an even first period against Ljubljana, Matt Fraser first took the lead in powerplay for the KAC. However, the guests from Ljubljana responded before the end of the first period. After a scoreless middle period, with slight advantages for Olimpija, the KAC acted more successfully in front of the goal in the final period. Fabian Hochegger, only 21, scored in his third game in a row. After goals against Asiago and Villach, the native of Klagenfurt provided the game-winning goal against the Slovenians. Thomas Hundertpfund finally scored with the buzzer to make the final score 3:1.
