Release from 20.10.2023
While EC Red Bull Salzburg extended its lead in the standings in the 13th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League, EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 improved to second and third place with commanding victories. EC-KAC, meanwhile, remained unbeaten in home games and HC TIWAG Innsbruck extended the spusu Vienna Capitals' losing streak to seven games. The Steinbach Black Wings Linz, on the other hand, managed a win at the runners-up in Bolzano.
EC Red Bull Salzburg remains top of the win2day ICE Hockey League table after the 13th round, even though Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey gave the reigning champions a tough fight. The final decision in the 4-2 win of the Red Bulls was delivered by Mario Huber in the last minute: With an empty-netter the 27-year-old Austrian scored his 100th goal in the win2day ICE Hockey League.
VSV and Fehérvár are the new pursuers of the reigning champions
EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV won 5:2 at the Moser Medical Graz99ers. But also this match was on a knife edge until shortly before the end. The Styrians took a deserved lead in front of their home crowd. It was not until the final period that Villach managed to turn the game around, partly because defender Dylan MacPherson is currently on-fire and scored his second brace of the season.
In Feldkirch, the match between BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 was very similar. The hosts took an early lead and the Hungarians only managed the final turnaround in the final period. With a 6:3 victory Fehérvár is currently on the third place in the win2day ICE Hockey League.
Sovereign victories for Innsbruck and KAC
At HC TIWAG Innsbruck, the efficient offense of the Tyroleans struck once again on Friday night. Against the spusu Vienna Capitals, who already suffered their seventh defeat in a row, the Sharks scored six goals. The Viennese were still able to keep up until 2:2, before Innsbruck ensured the preliminary decision in the 6:3 victory already in the second period.
The EC-KAC remains unbeaten in its home arena this season. Against HK SZ Olimpija, the strongest away team in the league so far, the Klagenfurters managed a 4:0 shutout victory. Three strong minutes in the second period were enough for Klagenfurt, in which they scored three of the four goals. This means that Klagenfurt, who are currently in seventh place, remain within striking distance of the top six.
Black Wings win in Bolzano thanks to strong finish
Steinbach Black Wings Linz and HCB Südtirol Alperia delivered an entertaining exchange of blows on Friday evening with the better end for the Upper Austrians. However, Linz also had the more successful start and gained a quick 2:0 lead. The South Tyroleans fought their way back to 2:2 in front of their home crowd before Linz launched a final offensive - pushed by an extremely rare goalie fight - and eventually prevailed 5:2, defending their fifth place.
