EC Red Bull Salzburg won the first leg of the Champions Hockey League round of 16 tie with the Lahti Pelicans with 2:1 to put themselves in a perfect position for the second leg next week. The Red Bulls' goals were scored by Mario Huber (26./SH1) and Troy Bourke (45.).

In an exciting and evenly-matched encounter, Mario Huber put the visitors from Salzburg ahead in the 26th minute while short-handed. However, the Finnish hosts responded promptly: Lars Bryggman equalized for the Liiga's twelfth-placed team just three minutes later. Salzburg then proved a little more dominant and created several good chances. Troy Bourke finally gave the Red Bulls the lead again in the 45th minute. This time Salzburg held on and secured an excellent starting position for the second leg on Wednesday, November 20.
