When the fans returned to the Eisarena Salzburg, the hosts got off to a perfect start: After winning a face-off, Aljaž Predan scored in the fifth minute to make it 1:0. After the Czechs had equalised promptly, newcomer T.J. Brennan retook the lead with 13.5 seconds before the first intermission. The game continued to offer chances on both sides in the middle period, with Brennan again scoring the only goal. It got really exciting in the final period. First, the visitors managed to pull one back, but Florian Baltram (59th) made the successful preseason start perfect with an empty-net goal.

Next weekend, the six-time league champions will take part in the Red Bulls Salute at Sportpark Kitzbühel. The tournament will be a first highlight in the new ice hockey season. The Salzburg side will face Bílí Tygři Liberec from the Czech Republic in the opener, and on Sunday either the duel against Red Bull München or HC Košice from Slovakia awaits.
