Both EC Red Bull Salzburg and EC VSV did not make use of their full team. The Red Bulls determined the initial phase and already had their first chances against EC VSV. Only in the middle of the first third the Villach team became more offensive and took a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute, Salzburg's goalie Lukas Herzog did not have a good view when Benedikt Wohlfahrt shot well from the left bully circle. The last minutes belonged again to the young Salzburgers, who set in in the 18th minute for a 1:1 break. Aljaz Predan scored - the 20-year-old Slovenian celebrated his first goal with the professionals - and even after that the Red Bulls showed good combinations with real scoring chances, Villach's goalkeeper Alexander Schmidt proved his reactions.

The second period was more balanced, but still impressed with high speed. Paul Huber in the minority (23rd) and Julian Lutz (36th) had the opportunity to take the lead after solo runs, but were still under pressure.

In the 42nd minute, Nico Feldner just past the lead, put the puck close to the bar in the fast forward movement in front of the goal. After a balanced game, the Red Bulls then used a 5:3 powerplay in the 49th minute, with Filip Varejcka taking the lead. Five minutes later, Maximilian Rebernig missed the third Salzburg goal. The guests pressured for the equalizer again, but couldn't score.
