Salzburg wins top-of-the-table clash
EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a 2:1 victory over HC Pustertal in the summit meeting against HC Pustertal and thus ousted the South Tyroleans from the top of the table. The Wolves initially got off to the better start and took a 1:0 lead through Matthias Mantinger despite the hosts' superior play. The Red Bulls continued to have more of the encounter in the high-class duel and were rewarded by the equalizer in the middle third by Benjamin Nissner. Jacob Smith, the Wolves' goalkeeper, also distinguished himself again and again with some impressive saves. Just two minutes before the supposed overtime, the Red Bulls top scorer Peter Schneider shot the Salzburgers to the top of the table with his sixth goal of the season (the 13th scorer point). Pustertal now had to accept the second defeat in a row after an impressive start to the season with six wins.

Fehérvár leaves Villach behind
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 won one of the top matches of the eighth round against EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV. In the direct duel for the third place in the table, the Hungarians brought a 2-1 lead to the finish. In the goalless starting third, the guests from Szekesfehérvár had more of the encounter. This was then reflected on the scoreboard in the second period with Pascal Laberge's opening goal. In the final period, Kevin Hancok provided the short-lived equalizer for the Eagles. The guests had the appropriate answer just a little later in an powerplay. VSV started a powerful final attack on the Fehérvár box, but could not score again due to a great playing Dominik Horvath in the goal of the Devils. Even in a long double powerplay, the only 22-year-old goalkeeper successfully held on to Fehérvár's victory.

Klagenfurt turns game against Vienna into clear success
The EC-KAC and the spusu Vienna Capitals played a duel of runs on Tuesday evening. The visitors from Vienna got off to the better start, scoring goals from Austrians Leon Wallner and Lukas Piff to take a 2-0 lead by the eighth minute. But Klagenfurt came back impressively in the first period and quickly equalized. At the beginning of the middle third, Thomas Hundertpfund was able to take the lead for the hosts. But that was not enough: the Austrian veteran added another goal in the second period for a two-goal lead. The EC-KAC finally prevailed 5:2 in front of their home crowd and overtook the Viennese in the standings with their fourth win in the seventh game.

Black Wings add second win in a row after losing streak
The Steinbach Black Wings Linz celebrated their second win in the last three days on Tuesday after four defeats in a row. Visiting HC TIWAG Innsbruck, the Upper Austrians got off to a lightning start. After only 42 seconds Emilio Romig shot the guests in the lead. The Sharks were visibly shocked and did not find their way back into the match during the first 30 minutes. Graham Knott made it 2-0 for the Black Wings in the second period. This goal woke up the Sharks and they fought their way into the overtime. But there Niklas Würschl ensured the decision of the Upper Austrians and the third win of the season.

Irrepressible Steve Owre spoils season debut of Glen Hanlon
The BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg provided the next surprise in the eighth round. Last season's last-place team celebrated its fifth win of the season against reigning runners-up HCB Südtirol Alperia, which puts the Vorarlberg side fifth in the table. Glen Hanlon - who was brought back from South Tyrol to coach his first game since last season's Final 7 on Tuesday night - would have expected his debut to be different. But the Foxes couldn't get an unleashed Steve Owre under control. The 27-year-old Canadian scored a total of four goals and then eventually provided the primary assist on a 5-on-4 game-winning goal from compatriot Clayton Kirichenko. For the South Tyroleans, who are now at the bottom of the table, this was already the seventh defeat in the eighth game of the season.

Asiago celebrates first win of the season against Graz
The clash between Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and Moser Medical Graz99ers was the meeting of the only two teams still without a win this season in the win2day ICE Hockey League. While the Styrians lost four times in overtime, the northern Italians had only one point before this encounter. The two teams engaged in a cheerful exchange of blows in Asiago. After Asiago went ahead three times, the Graz99ers promptly followed suit. Five minutes before the end, Allan Mcshane put the yellow-reds in front for the fourth time in this encounter. The Styrians were unable to equalize and eventually suffered their seventh defeat in the seventh game.
