“I've never scored five goals in a game before. It's always nice when you can contribute to the team's success,” explained Connor Sanvido and emphasized: ”Personal accolades are rewarding in the sense that you are contributing to our teams ultimate goal of winning hockey games. I have to thank my line mates for giving me a lot of opportunities to score on Saturday.”

In addition to Connor Sanvido, six other players - Mikael Saha (SWL), Kalle Myllymaa (RBJ), Martin Mairitsch (VEU), Robin Soudek (VEU), Philippe Paradis (JES) and Philipp Winzig (EHC) - have scored five goals in a game so far. No player has ever scored six or more goals in an Alps Hockey League match. Accordingly, such a successful game gives a lot of self-confidence for the future. “I'm definitely taking confidence with me but each game is a fresh start and a clean slate. Confidence is such a crucial aspect in the game of hockey,” said Sanvido.

After a difficult start to the season, which was characterized by numerous injuries, the team is now performing much better as a whole. Although they are still bottom of the table, they have won three of their last four games. Sanvido himself has also shown great improvement, scoring a total of eight goals in the last three games. “I believe all seasons have ups and downs throughout the year. We had a slow start to the year with accumulating injuries but now have been healthy as of late. As a team we are continuing to build momentum in the right direction and it is showing on ice. I am confident that we as a team will only progress in the right direction from here on out”, said the 31-year-old.

This is already the center's second season in Sterzing. He previously played in Pergine, also in Italy. Overall, he feels completely at home in the region and the country: “I feel very comfortable within the team, the region and the league. Hockey as always been a part of my life so that has always been an easy transition in a team setting.” The Canadian particularly highlights the Sterzing region: “As for the region, Sterzing is a great place to play hockey abroad. It’s a beautiful city year round and the local community has always been friendly and welcoming. Lastly, I think the league is continuing to grow every year, it’s expanding and also is well balanced. Any team can beat anyone on any given night so it’s exciting to compete when the opportunity arises.”

The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan play their next two games at local rivals Merano (Saturday, Nov. 30) and Ritten (Tuesday, Dec. 3). Connor Sanvido expects two difficult games: “There is always an extra bit of rivalry playing a team from Italy. They are both strong opponents and we will prepare accordingly for both of them. My expectations for these two games like all games is to play a consistent 60 minute game and collect three points when it is over. Every game is an exciting challenge and I look forward to each game as they come.”
