The Vienna native went through all the junior teams within the Capitals organization. After loans to Finland and Sweden during the 2019/20 season, the goalkeeper made his debut with the Capitals' professional team the following season. The goalie gained international attention in December 2020 with his performances at the U20 World Championship in Edmonton, Canada. Wraneschitz was on the ice in three of the games and landed in the notebooks of NHL scouts with strong performances.

Two stations in North America
On April 16, 2021, Wraneschitz made his debut for the Austrian senior national team. In July 2021, the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League selected the Vienna native in the first round of the CHL Import Draft. To get closer to his NHL dream, Wraneschitz left the spusu Vienna Capitals to join the team from the Canadian province of British Columbia. Wraneschitz then moved to the USHL to join the Tri-City Storm, where the Viennese finished the season. In August 2022, Wraneschitz once again played in three of four preliminary round games for the ÖEHV team at the U20 World Championship. At the tournament, which was once again held in Edmonton, the Viennese even improved and showed better statistical values than in December 2020. In the 2022/23 season, Wraneschitz played only three games for Tri-City Storm due to an injury.

Wraneschitz excited about opportunity in Vienna
"I am excited to start my professional career with the spusu Vienna Capitals. This is a great opportunity that I get here from the coaching team. I'm looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. I firmly believe that we can achieve great things this season," says Caps returnee Sebastian Wraneschitz.
