EK Die Zeller Eisbären began the playoffs with a 4-1 home win over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. It was the Austrian team’s ninth consecutive victory and their fifth in six matchups against Sterzing. On the road this season, they have won all three previous encounters, most recently in late February with a dominant 9-2 scoreline.

Sisak looks to follow up with first season win in Cortina
Alongside Zell am See, KHL Sisak also opened their quarterfinal series with a home win. For the Croatians, the 2-1 victory marked their first-ever playoff win in the Alps Hockey League. Goalie Vilim Rosandic shone with 47 saves and was very pleased after the game: “We played good hockey in all three zones. We didn’t have a lot of turnovers and played a very responsible game. They had 48 shots, but I wouldn’t say there were many high-scoring chances. Our defense definitely made it easier for me tonight. If we play the same way again, we’ll give ourselves a good chance to take a 2-0 series lead on Thursday.” In the fourth matchup of the season against Cortina, it was Sisak’s second win, although they have yet to claim an away victory this season.

Asiago under pressure in Meran
The only home team to lose their opener was HC Migross Asiago, who fell 2-4 to HC Meran/o Pircher on Tuesday. It was Meran’s second victory in four season matchups against Asiago, with both wins coming on the road. In a tight contest, Reid Stefanson scored the 3-2 game-winning goal in the 49th minute. For Meran, it was already the seventh consecutive win.
