Thursday opener: Red Bull Hockey Juniors vs. HC Meran/o Pircher
Both teams started the season with a loss. The Juniors fell 4-5 in a shootout at home against Sisak, even though they had been down 0-4 at one point, while Meran lost 0-3 to Cortina in front of their home crowd. Last season, the South Tyroleans won two of the three direct encounters.

League leader Kitzbühel meets Asiago
A thrilling matchup awaits between Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and newcomer HC Asiago. Kitzbühel began the season with a convincing 6-2 home win over Gherdeina and is currently the first league leader. Asiago had no chance in their opening game against Ritten, losing 1-5.

South Tyrol derby: Sterzing vs. Ritten
Two-time champion Rittner Buam SkyAlps faces the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan in the South Tyrol derby on Thursday. Sterzing, like Ritten, started the season with a 5-3 win over Unterland. The Broncos and the “Buam” met in the preseason, with Ritten winning 4-3. However, last season Sterzing had the upper hand in two of three encounters.

Unterland takes on Sisak
The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers play KHL Sisak on Thursday. The Croatians currently have two points after a 5-4 shootout win in Salzburg and have positive memories of past meetings with Unterland: Sisak won both games in the Qualification Round last season 4-1, while the South Tyroleans prevailed in all three games during the regular season.

Gherdeina vs. Cortina
In the fifth and final Thursday game, HC Gherdeina valgardena.it faces S.G. Cortina Hafro. Gherdeina had a disappointing start with a 2-6 loss in Kitzbühel, while Cortina began the season with a 3-0 win in Meran. Goalie Antti Karjalainen was the only netminder to record a shutout in the opening round. Last season, Cortina won four of five cross-competition games against Gherdeina.

Bregenzerwald kicks off on Friday
The Alps Hockey League continues on Friday with EC Bregenzerwald making its season debut. The Vorarlberg team visits reigning runners-up HDD Jesenice, who narrowly lost 3-4 in Zell am See. Friday’s game will be the first of two matches for Bregenzerwald within 24 hours, as they travel to Sisak on Saturday. Last season, Jesenice won all three encounters against Bregenzerwald, two of them in overtime.
