The semifinals between EC Red Bull Salzburg and EC-KAC continue on Friday in the Mozart City already with game 5! The first four games brought always five goals, three times the match ended 4:1. The series are tied 2:2 in this moment and continues now best of three. This means, the opponent of the UPC Vienna Capitals in the finals is known earliest on Sunday after game 6 at Klagenfurt. Same as in the past Playoff-meeting between this two clubs (Quarterfinals 2016) Klagenfurt tied the series after a 0:2-defeat. In those days the Carinthians then also won game 5 at Salzburg. But take attention: Since October 2016 the Mozart Citizens didn‘t lose three games in a row, in those days the Champion was defeated by the UPC Vienna Capitals, HC TWK Innsbruck „Die Haie“ and HCB Südtirol Alperia. Four games in a row the team of Greg Poss never lost so far this season. A key-factor could be the 1st goal of the game on Friday, because in the last eight clashes between EC Red Bull Salzburg and EC-KAC always won that club, that scored the first goal in the game… The best goalscorers of their clubs in the Playoffs are Stefan Geier, who made already eight goals for EC-KAC or Thomas Raffl and Bill Thomas, who were successful so far five or four times for the Red Bulls.
Also the goalies Bernhard Starkbaum (RBS), who has a save% of 94,9 and a GAA of 1.67 and David Madlener (KAC) with a save% of 94,7% and a GAA of 1.5 are top in the Playoffs. „We played a strong Forecheck and so the Red Bulls had difficulties to build up their game. The series are tied now and will continue best of three. We need another win at Salzburg, best already on Friday“, said Klagenfurts goalie David Madlener. Bernhard Starkbaum on the other side wants to take the lead in the series again with the Champion with a home-win: „We must play our game, skate and work hard!“
