With six games on Saturday and one game on Sunday, there will be another high-class weekend in the Alps Hockey League. Not in the AHL, but in Continental Cup in action is runner-up HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. The Slovenians will play in Asiago to advance to the third round. Besides the host from the win2day ICE Hockey League, they will face Buz Adam Istanbul (TUR) and Vojvodina Novi Sad (SRB).

Sat, 15.10.2022, 19:15: Red Bull Hockey Juniors - EC-KAC Future Team

There was no sense of achievement for the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the EC-KAC Future Team on Thursday. While the Young Bulls lost against Ritten with 2:6, after two wins in a row before, the Future Team lost with 2:4 against Sterzing. For the Klagenfurt team it was already the fifth defeat in a row. In the standings, RBJ remains in a strong fourth place, while KFT is eleventh. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the EC-KAC Future Team have already met once this season. On September 15th, the Future Team prevailed with 3:2 after overtime.

The EHC Lustenau is now five games in a row without a win. On Thursday, they were defeated by second-placed Cortina with 0:2 and thus slipped to the last place in the standings. Overall, they have just three points from seven games this season. The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it already has 16 points from nine games. However, the South Tyroleans lost for the first time on Thursday after previously winning four games in a row. In Zell am See they lost 2:3, with Brad McGowan scoring both goals for the "Furie". The Canadian already has nine goals scored this season and a goal-scoring streak of six games. Lustenau and Val Gardena have not faced each other in over a year. In the last duel, on September 11th, 2021, the EHC won clearly with 5:0.

After the furious start to the season with six wins in a row, league newcomer Hockey Unterland Cavaliers recently suffered two defeats in a row. The EC Bregenzerwald celebrated a victory in three of the past five games. In the standings, Unterland is still only three points behind league leader Jesenice with 18 points and is in third place. Bregenzerwald is in eighth place with thirteen points.

The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan are currently on the upswing, with three wins in a row and the seventh place in the table. Immediately ahead is the EK Die Zeller Eisbären that could win the past two games. On Thursday, they prevailed against Val Gardena with 3:2. The Broncos celebrated a 4:2 win in Klagenfurt. Away, the "Polar Bears" are still struggling this season, with two defeats from three games. The Broncos won two of their three home games so far. Last season, the two teams faced each other twice. The home team retained the upper hand on each occasion.

With a 7:3 home win over Fassa on Thursday, the HC Merano/o Pircher has at least temporarily ended the crisis. For the South Tyrolean it was the first victory after previously seven defeats in a row. Thus, they also left the bottom of the table and climbed to thirteenth place. The EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel was last in action last Saturday, winning against Ritten with 6:3. They also won the game before that in Lustenau (5:4-SO). With eleven points, the KEC is in ninth place in the table. The "Eagles" duel between Merano and Kitzbühel has taken place twice in the AHL so far. In both encounters, the South Tyroleans clearly prevailed (5:2 & 7:3).

Both the SHC Fassa Falcons and the Steinbach Steel Wings Linz suffered defeats recently. Fassa could not win any of the past three games, the Steel Wings have been waiting for a success for four games. In the standings, both teams are accordingly not in the Top-10. Fassa has six points and is twelfth in the table. With one point less the Steel Wings are in 14th place. In the H2H the "Falcons" are clearly ahead with 7:1. The Steel Wings' only win so far dates back to March 18th, 2021.

In the only match on Sunday, the current team of the hour, S.G. Cortina Hafro will face the Rittner Buam SkyAlps. Cortina won the past seven games all and is in second place in the standings. On Thursday they prevailed in Lustenau with 2:0. Their only defeat of the season was at the start of the season in Jesenice. With only 16 goals conceded, the Italians currently share the league's best defense with Unterland. Ritten has conceded 20 goals so far. They are in tenth place in the table. The gap to Cortina is already eleven points. After three defeats in a row recently, they were able to return to winning ways on Thursday, winning clearly 6:2 against the Young Bulls. It was their third win of the season in the seventh game. However, the "Buam" have good memories of Cortina. Last season, both teams faced each other in the quarterfinals. Ritten narrowly prevailed in the series with 3:2 victories. In the deciding game, they clearly kept the upper hand with 5:1.
Jesenice fights for promotion in the Continental Cup
Last year's finalist HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice will not play in the Alps Hockey League this weekend, but in the Continental Cup. In Asiago, the Slovenians will first face Buz Adam Istanbul from Turkey today, Friday. On Saturday the duel with Vojvodina Novi Sad from Serbia follows, before it comes to the AHL final rematch with Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey on Sunday. The Italians are playing in the win2day ICE Hockey League since this season. Only the tournament winner advances to the next round, which is scheduled for late November in Nitra, Slovakia. All games will be streamed live on www.live.ice.hockey.
