Shootout wins for Jesenice and Cortina

Two close games were played in the Alps Hockey League on Tuesday. Both HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice and S.G. Cortina Hafro won with 3:2 after shootout. Both teams, against HK RST Pellet Celje and EC Bregenzerwald respectively, were still trailing until a few minutes before the end of the third period.

S.G. Cortina Hafro could equalize a 0:2 at the EC Bregenzerwald in the last five and a half minutes of the game. In the end, the fourth-placed team in the table won 3:2 after a shootout at the sixth-placed team in the table. Bregenzerwald first took a 2:0 lead through two goals by Julian Zwerger in the 26th minute and 54th minute. However, the guests from Italy fought back once again and were able to quickly reduce the score to 1:2 through Francesco Adami in the power play. Gregory Di Tomaso scored the equalizer two minutes before the end of the game. The defender also scored the decisive penalty to give Cortina its fifth win in a row. Bregenzerwald, on the other hand, was defeated at home for the first time this season.

Jesenice turns game in Celje around
In the second Slovenian duel between league newcomer HK RST Pellet Celje and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, 15th-placed Celje was away only three and a half minutes for the big sensation. Until the 57th minute of the match, the home team was leading 2:1. In the end, however, the clear favorite from Jesenice prevailed 3:2 after shootout. After the clear 6:1 home victory at the start of the season, the reigning champion were thus also able to win the second duel of the season with Celje. JES is still in second place in the standings and is now three points behind league leader Zell am Zee. In Celje, Jesenice was already trailing after five and a half minutes. Although the guests were able to answer quickly, the home side took the lead again in the 16th minute. It remained 2:1 for the league newcomer until three and a half minutes before the end of the game, before Gasper Sersen scored in the powerplay to equalize for Jesenice and thus averted the sensation from Celje's point of view. In the overtime that followed, neither team could score the decision. In the shootout, it was finally JES top scorer Zan Jezovsek who scored the decisive penalty.
